Throughout the six week school summer holidays, we offered all our supported families the opportunity to attend Lunch Club, in which there was an hour of play/crafts/activities, followed by a hot meal, provided and served by volunteers from Kirkwall Salvation Army.
Many of our supported families are already familiar with the Kirkwall Salvation Army Hall through our weekly Group Support sessions, and we were keen to provide that same welcoming environment throughout the holidays as well as offering parents and children a hot meal, recognizing the additional financial strain providing meals can cost parents during the holidays, particularly as the Cost of Living Crisis shows no sign of abating, and costs of essentials continue to rise.
Those attending Lunch Club provided positive feedback and it was a treat to see adults and bairns enjoying themselves, with a lot of banter around the lunch table too.
